Dear Community Gardening Friends,
Gardeners in Community Development (GICD),
and all our member community
gardeners invite you to help us celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the East
Dallas Community Garden.
Date: Saturday, September 6
Time: 10 am to 3 pm
Place: East Dallas Community Garden, 1416
N. Fitzhugh, Dallas. (between Ross and Bryan, close to Jimmy's)
The East Dallas Community Garden is a very special place. It has
been a haven for refugee families, especially Cambodian, Laotian, and
Burmese families that garden here. It is a favorite place for
visitors, loved and supported by residents across the region. And,
while there are many community gardens in our region today, this
"Asian Garden" pioneered the community gardening movement in the
Dallas area. Through GICD workshops, publications and website, advocacy
from the American Community Gardening Association, and support from Heifer
International, this thriving gardening project is known worldwide.
It has lush exotic vegetables in every season, a small market that sells
the freshest locally grown produce in Dallas, has the best spring plant
sale, an ambitious new youth gardening project, and is tended by some of
the nicest gardeners and volunteers on the planet.
If you have ever been in this community garden, please come and
celebrate with us. And, if you have never come to this garden,
please
do. We welcome all!!!
May I also take this opportunity, on the behalf of all those whose lives
have benefited from this community project, to say thank you to all who
have given their support over these past two decades.
A poster is attach. Please print one to post, and share with others.
See you there,
Don Lambert
