Community Garden List |
Dallas Area Community Gardens (a working list, Jan 2009)
 This
list was compiled by Gardeners in Community Development (GICD) for the
purpose of facilitating the interaction between community garden groups across
North Texas, and to assist those who may wish to volunteer or in other way
support the development of community gardening. Over 20 years ago, GICD
members pioneered the community gardening movement in the Dallas area.
GICD training, workshops, and model community gardens have inspired new garden
start ups in recent years. In the past year we have heard so many rumors,
read numerous emails, had phone calls, seen in blogs and newspapers, heard at
neighborhood meetings, that someone is starting a new community garden. We
complied this list of possible community gardens for you (residents of North
Texas) to sift through, maybe find a plot or group to work with, and we hope you
will help us update the list.
Please notify GICD at grower@flash.net
to suggest changes, additions, deletions, etc. We will update this
information on the GICD website (www.gardendallas.org)
when necessary. All community gardens and their gardeners should be aware
of the American Community Gardening Association (ACGA). ACGA is the
primary source of community gardening training and support across the USA and
Canada (and world wide). At the very least, all community gardens should
be entered on the ACGA map of community gardens. To become an ACGA member,
to access the worlds best source of community gardening information, maybe get
on the listserve to learn about and share concerns with other community
gardeners, and access the map, go to ACGA
(communitygarden.org)
The community gardening movement is important
to North Texas. Increased connections and collaboration with others who
share this interest a step towards securing and expanding growth. Who
knows? All the community gardeners in this region may find some wonderful
ways to work together and support each other.
see Benefits of
Community Gardening.
Thank You.
